Salaam is a project running ‘Short Break’ opportunities to families with disabled children living in the London Borough of Barnet, and is totally independant, enjoying support from Hendon Mosque and other local organisations.
Our aim is to be welcoming to people from all backgrounds, cultures and abilities.
We believe in inclusive play and our schemes include siblings and friends that the young disabled people may want to bring along, which will increase the sense of a social atmosphere and add to their enjoyment because they will be sharing their experiences with people they care about.
We currently offer schemes from 8 – 19 years and work hard to ensure that all activities are culturally appropriate for our diverse range of children whose needs vary.

For a disabled child or young person, a short break can be anything from spending a few hours taking part in an activity that they enjoy to staying away from home overnight. A short break is meant to enable children and young people to have fun and their parents to have a break and some time to themselves or to spend with other siblings in the family.
Salaam was established in response to the Short Break Consultation conducted in Barnet by Paradigm and the Barnet Council of Voluntary Youth Services (BCVYS).
The consultation found that parents and children and young people wanted more varied types of short break activities.
